The Rohirrim

  • £15.00

Let this be the hour when we draw swords together.

Whether you grew up with the book or the film, this is a quote that will always be remembered regardless of who said it... But isn't part of the glory of storytelling to see how the tale is adapted by the teller?

The Rohirrim are probably the people in Tolkien's Middle Earth most based on Vikings through their appearance and culture (burial mounds etc). They are fearsome warriors on horseback but like so many others, their power has been waning at the time the Fellowship sets out from Rivendell...

Norse mythology was clearly a huge influence on the world that J.R.R. Tolkien created for his Lord of the Rings series. From the inclusion (and characteristics) of some of the races like the elves and dwarves to the names of many of his characters, the author was clearly inspired as many of our artists are today by the tales passed down from the Viking age.
