Nordic Blue Whale | Original Painting on Canvas

  • £215.00
Design

This painting by Paula Cruz Art was made in honour of the magnificent giants that roam our seas. She has added a Nordic knotwork motif as a nod to the history and traditional engagement the Viking people shared with whales.

It is no mystery that these creatures were a large part of Nordic culture in the distant past. Aside from the fact that these animals were used for their fat and meat, they are still part of traditional belief systems by the Inuit and Sámi, who are the native populations of Viking settlement areas.

Respected beasts of the seas make up a large portion of Nordic mythology, whether it be whales or the serpent Jormungandr.
