Badger King Nordic Pin Series

Design

The full series of Nordic Enamel Pins designed by Badger King Tattoo are now available exclusively through Northern Fire. The 3 pins represent different areas of Norse mythology and lore: Odin, Ragnar, and The Raven Banner.

The Odin Godmask Enamel Pin, designed by Broc, pays homage to Grímnir’s boldest imagery from the archaeological record.

Though the shape is inspired by the Aarhus Godmask stone, the colouration of the pin (and specifically the intent to outline one shining eye) emulates the god’s depictions on the golden artefacts of the Vendel Period.

The second is Broc’s tribute to a legendary Viking Age character - Ragnar Lothbrok - whose demise has been written about in many songs and stories. Legend has it that Ragnar met his death at the hands of the Northumbrian King Aelle in England after being cast into a snake pit.

The final pin features Broc's take on the Raven Banner, which appears throughout the Viking Age historical record. Perhaps the raven banner pays homage to Odin’s corvid messengers - Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory, respectively). But ravens have been powerful symbols across many cultures for their affiliation with battle and carnage as well.

About The Artist

Broc Ó Diolúin, known as The Badger King within his tattoo work, is renowned for his work with Celtic and Nordic art styles. His creations and knowledge also manifest in a project known as Badger Horns, where he shares stories and mythology related to Celtic folklore. Though he calls Llandudno in North Wales his home, Broc’s dedication to the Irish  language and lore is apparent in his work with the ancient script of Ogham, as well as his mastery of the artistic styles seen within the Book of Kells.
