Design

The Welsh red dragon is the symbol of culture and pride in the homeland of Sacred Knot Tattoo. This T shirt design has been created to reflect this.

The Welsh red dragon is recorded in history as far back as 829AD and was supposedly the battle standard of King Arthur and other legendary Celtic war leaders. It’s origins could possibly come from the Roman legionary standards. When the Romans left the British Isles in the 6th century, the Eagle may have been consider to be too Roman, but the Dragon more relatable. I personally would argue that the dragon was already a Celtic beast deeply embedded in the minds of the celts across Europe… if not the whole world. This design is very much a modern take on the mighty creature. It’s fierceness represents The spirit of the Welsh culture and language. Cenedl heb iaith, Cenedl hen galon. Cymru am byth!
