Yggdrasil | Small Fine Art Painting

Design

This design by Villkat Arts is a tribute to the great ash tree at the central spire of the Nordic cosmological world, known as Yggdrasil.

Yggdrasil is mentioned in Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál (of the Prose Edda), and in Grímnismál and Völuspá (of the Poetic Edda). Some believe that the name of the tree can be translated to something similar to "Odin's Horse." This imagery aligns with the idea that he mounted (hung) himself on the world tree in Hávamál, sacrificing “himself to himself.” There he stayed hanging for nine days and nights until he reached down and found the wisdom that was the runes.

Material & Make

The artwork you will receive is the original piece. It was hand painted and comes on a cotton canvas stretched over a wooden frame backing. Please know that our images intend to capture the colour to the best of our ability, but can’t always display the exact nuances of texture and tint within the artwork. If you have concerns about this, please try viewing on different monitors to make sure your computer or phone is giving you the best representation.
